Personality(likes/dislikes, strengths/weaknesses):
Likes: Shakespeare, fencing/periodical fighting techniques, teaching students, acting, movies, the theatre in general, reading, Elizabethan period, England, horseback riding

Dislikes: those who tease him because of his British accent, students who think they know everything, students who do not take criticism well, vain women(particularly those who try and get to him because of his money)

Strengths: he is always willing to help his students to achieve their goals, is a strong actor of both stage and screen, is strict but reasonable

Weaknesses: beautiful ladies, can sometimes come across as rude, rarely shows emotion, has difficult time relaxing, is afraid that every woman is only after his money

Teaching position desired(acting, dance, musical theatre, technical): Acting(Shakespeare)

Teaching history: Taught Shakespeare at The University of Toronto

Theatre history: Romeo(Romeo and Juliet), Hamlet(Hamlet), Macbeth(Macbeth), Sir Andrew Aguecheek(Twelfth Night) Henry VIII, Marcus Brutus(Julias Caesar) Benedick(Much Ado About Nothing)

Family Background: It would seem that Stephen’s career was already planned for him as he was born in Warwickshire not far from William Shakespeare’s birth place. He was also fortunate to be born into a family with money which allowed him to pursue his acting career. Instead of attending regular school, his parents had him sent to a private one who he received top notch instruction. It was while at his private school that he found his talent for acting and his fascination with Shakespeare.

He auditioned for The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and was accepted. It was there that he graduated with a BA Honours Degree in Acting. After performing professionally in London, he was sent a special request to assist in teaching students at The University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario. It was at this time that he also began to teach combative techniques at both the university and also Renaissance Festivals. While in Toronto, he also played roles in student movie projects including one in which he played his inspiration, William Shakespeare.

What do you feel that you shall bring to Apollo's Lyre Drama Academy as a teacher?:I feel that I shall inspire students to perform their best and also teach them what they need to be successful in their lives

Anything else you wish to tell us?: While living in Toronto, Stephen’s father died, leaving him a large sum of money. Through the years, women have tried to get close to him so they might have a chance to marry and share in his fortune. So far, he has yet to find a woman that he deems worthy of that privilege and for that reason, remains single

Character of the Month for May 2008

I. Player: These are to be answered by the player of the character

Dana

1. Where did you come up for the inspiration for your character? My insipiration for Stephen came from a love of Shakespeare. And what better teacher for it then one from England? The name Stephen is a nice English name and the last name indicates he is someone of importance as well as a typical Englishman. He is a teacher who loves his job but unfortunately has a weakness for the ladies and thinks they use him because he has money

2. What place is the best for you to come up with ideas?(bedroom, shower, etc.) Well, believe it or not it is when I am driving *laugh*. I have an hour drive to take my husband to work and an hour back so that gives me plenty of time to think. Some of my best ideas have come from those drives

3. How did you come about choosing the avatar(actor/actress) to represent your character? Well, I had to pick someone who is English. And I chose Jack Davenport because I think he represents Stephen well with his humor as well as looks. And all right I admit it, if I wanted to have a Shakespeare teacher I would want him to look just like Jack Davenport. Oh and did I mention that Marina also convinced me as well? :P

II. Character: These are to be answered by the character itself

Stephen Whitehall

1. Do you have any particular plans for Apollo's Lyre?: Well more then anything I do hope to inspire some of my students and show them that Shakespeare is not just for stuffy actors who speak with large words. Oh and that English teachers do not dress like Giles from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

2. Any potential love interest?: *laughs* Well, uhhh...yes I do. However I am afraid that I cannot reveal who it is as I do not wish to be fired from my position at the academy before I have even started. I can tell you that this person inspires me and yes is quite attractive. And no it is NOT a guy! Just because I am an actor of Shakespeare does not mean I am gay.

3. Any enemies?: I would have to say anyone who calls me gay and makes fun of my accent. Oh yes, and anyone who asks me how The Queen is doing

4. If you were the head mistress or head master of Apollo's Lyre is there anything you would do differently? Complaints? Anything that I would do differently? Hmmm. Well, I think I would provide all the teachers with GPS devices to find themselves around this enormous place. And perhaps...co-ed dorms? To encourage relations with the opposite sex of course. Oh dear....are things different here in America about that? Should I start looking for another job already?
